It’s that time of year

Last month when we visited Rockport, Texas to see the Whooping Cranes, Linda Murdock, a fellow blogger and photographer (waaaaay better than me), noticed I was posting photos of our trip on Twitter and so she sent me a tweet recommending the Great Blue Heron rookery. Turns out, it was just down the street from where we were staying.
There was a lot of activity going on at the nests–a lot of flying in with sticks to build up nests and lots of canoodling.
The rookery is right in town in Rockport – Fulton, just off Fulton Beach Road overlooking Little Bay. And there’s a good parking lot with pavement where you can park your car and get good looks. The area is cordoned off so you don’t disturb the nesting site.

Oh boy! So glad it was close and you got some GREAT images! When we first heard about it the only directions we got was “it is behind the McDonald’s; you can’t miss it!” and of course, we did. The new parking/viewing area is so much better than the fence and perfect for flight shots. Thanks for the shout-out!
